The WLI Fourth Regional Coordination Meeting was held at the Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel in Cairo, Egypt on November 19-20, 2012. The meeting was attended by ICARDA’s Director General - Dr. Mahmoud Solh and over 70 representatives from partnering National Agricultural Research and Extension Services (NARES); the United States Agency for International Development (USAID); national, regional and U.S. universities; the International Water Management Institute (IWMI); United States Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Research Services (USDA-ARS); and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA). The meeting served as an excellent platform for WLI partnering NARES to report on progress made towards achieving set goals, challenges faced during the year 2012, and to develop and refine their respective workplans for 2013. Other presentations included updates on the WLI Student Exchange Program, WLI External Review, the new Harmonized Support for Agricultural Development (HSAD) project in Iraq, strategies of livelihood frameworks of analysis for WLI, and efforts to mobilize funds in selected WLI partnering countries. Tunisia was also welcomed as the new partner to the Initiative. The regional meeting was followed by the 5th Steering Committee Meeting, held on November 22, 2012.
