The 9th WLI Steering Committee Meeting was held in Amman on the 6th of February 2017. The meeting was attended by dignitaries from all seven partnering countries including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, and Yemen. Among the participants were Dr. Fawzi Al-Sheyab - Director General of Jordan’s National Center for Agricultural research and Extension (NCARE), Dr. Michael Afram - Director General of the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI), Eng. Issam Nofal - Director General of Agricultural Water and Irrigation Ministry of Agriculture of Palestine, Dr. Mansoor Mohamed Al Aqil – Chairman of Yemen’s Agricultural Research and Extension Authority (AREA), and Dr. Hesham Moustafa - Director of Water Management Research Institute under the National Water Research Center (NWRC). Also in attendance were WLI Focal persons from the seven countries and ICARDA staff. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Kamel Shideed, Assistant Director General – International Cooperation and Communication (ADG-ICC) from ICARDA. Other contributors included Dr. Scott Christiansen who served as a critical resource person, and Dr. Sandra Russo from University of Florida. The Committee reviewed WLI achievements during the year, as well as proposed work plans for 2017. Reports on regional initiatives, budget expenditures, and proposed budget breakdown were presented by the WLI Manager – Bezaiet Dessalegn. Discussions also included potential strategies for moving the WLI forward.
